“Water is fluid, soft, and yielding. But water will wear away rock, which is rigid and cannot yield. As a rule, whatever is fluid, soft, and yielding will overcome whatever is rigid and hard. This is another paradox: what is soft is strong.” – Lao-Tzu (600 B.C.)

Good results from blood tests

So, I mentioned yesterday that I got some good news when I went to see Dr. Cabe.  The results from the blood tests I had done on Monday were already back, and the majority of the numbers were really good.

First, my A1C was 6.3, down a tad from 6.5 three months ago.  With the problems I’ve been having over the last couple of months, I was expecting it to be higher, so I was really excited to hear it was lower.  Dr. Cabe was happy about it, too, and made no adjustments to my diabetes medications.

My fasting glucose was 128, which is still high based on the 70 to 110 range they would like for it to fall in, but it is a lot less than the fasting glucose of 217 I had at the time of diagnosis.

My Lipid profile came back pretty good as well.  The cholesterol is down across the  board.  My overall cholesterol is 153 (range: 0-200), my good cholesterol (HDL) was 50 (range:40-60), and my bad cholesterol (LDL) was 66 (range:63-130).  My triglycerides were still on the high side, at 185 (range:0-150), so I have to watch my carbs, etc…

And my blood pressure was really good, despite my being sick and all.  It was 100/77.  That’s very good for me.

So, overall all the results were really good.  I have a few things to work on, but I’m certainly not worried about any of them.

Keep Fighting It, and Rock On!

It's not a cold, it's a sinus infection

Well my doctor says I have a nasty sinus infection, and the congestion in my chest and pain in my throat has been caused by the drainage from the infection.  Just lovely.  So, I’ve been given an antibiotic called Omnicef, and will take two pills a day for the next ten days.  Hopefully that will take care of the problems.  If not, it’s back to the doctor again.  So, I just have to ride it out and see what happens.

The rest of this day will be spent sleeping, and doing what I need to do in order to feel better.  I’m planning to return to work tomorrow night, so I have to be well enough to do that.  I’m just glad that I was able to get into the doctor on such short notice.

I did get some good news from the doctor today; the results from the blood tests I had done Monday were already back.  Things are looking better.  I’ll share more details about the tests and results later.

For now, it’s back to resting.  Rock on!

A cold….continued

So, I woke up this morning feeling 10 times worse than I did when I went to bed last night. What ever I have is getting worse; the sore throat, congestion, etc… have all increased, and are driving me nuts. My voice is even gone. I’m not riding this out until Thursday, as I just got off the phone with my doctor’s office, and she wants to see me today. So, I’m going to see Dr. Cabe, get the medications she is bound to give me, and come home and try to sleep this off.

More updates to come…

A Cold? Seriously!?…

As if I really need it, I think I’m developing a cold or something of the sort.  I’ve had a bad sore throat off and on the last week or so, and I’ve started feeling congestion in my head and chest over the last day or so.   Thankfully, I already had a doctor’s appointment scheduled for this Thursday, so I just have to ride it out a couple more days until I can see the doctor, and get something to help fight this crud a little better.  For now, it’s Tylenol, hot green tea, and plenty of water and rest.  God, I sure hope this passes quickly.  I hate feeling like this.

Good night.

Good numbers

My blood glucose (BG) numbers have been pretty good during the past 3 days, and it looks as though I may be on track to make 4 straight days of good numbers.  I’m really happy about that, because I’ve been struggling with them over the last couple of months due to a lot of additional stress and illness that I’ve been dealing with.  It’s great to feel like I’m regaining the control that I had prior to my hospital visit last month.

My target range for my BG is 90 to 130, and 9 out of the last 10 test results have been within that range. Take a look at the numbers below.

May 27

Before Breakfast – 108
Before Dinner – 94

May 28

Before Breakfast – 122
Before Dinner – 113
Night – 122

May 29

Before Breakfast – 136
Before Lunch – 128
Before Dinner – 115
Night – 110

May 30

Before Breakfast – 126

I have to give blood for an A1C test on Monday.  This will be the second one I’ve had since being diagnosed, meaning I’ve reached the 6 month point in this adventure.  Got a long way to go.  I go back to my primary doctor on Thursday of next week, and should have the A1C results then.  I’ll be sure to post them.

Now it’s time to get back to enjoying the remainder of my 3 day weekend.  Have a great weekend!
