The Workers' Prayer

Ever have one of those days where you have to say a prayer in order to help you get through?  The last several days have been like that for me, and here’s one of my favorite prayers to say during such times.  It’s a bit on the funny side.

The Workers’ Prayer

Oh Lord,

Grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change.  The courage to change the things I cannot accept.  And the wisdom to hide the bodies of those people I had to kill today because they pissed me off.

Amen.

Good visit with cardiologist

I had an appointment with my cardiologist, Dr. Aprui, on Friday.  Overall, the appointment went well.  Dr. Apuri was really happy with how things are going, and was glad to hear that I wanted to get into an exercise program at a local health and fitness center.  I informed the doctor that the center had a monitored program that I could join, if he would give me a referral and clear me to join.  The referral was made while I was in the office, and I should hear from the health and fitness center early next week.  I can’t wait to get things going.

One new thing that the doctor wants to have checked is whether or not I have sleep apnea.   We have suspected it for a while now, but it has never been checked or diagnosed.  Because insufficient rest can cause additional problems for the heart, and the fact that I don’t always wake up feeling well rested, etc… Dr. Apuri decided that I should have a sleep study done, and has referred me to a specialist, who will administer the study.  I have an initial consultation with the new doctor on Friday, June 19th.  Wish me luck.

All for now.  Rock on!

Submit Your Questions

After writing a question and answer styled profile for an upcoming issue of “The Rockstar Review”, a newsletter produced by Diabetic Rockstar, I’ve decided to add a Question & Answer category to my blog.  Here’s how it works.  You submit your questions via comments on this post, or via email to mydiabeticheart@gmail.com, and I’ll read them, and then post the question and an answer as a blog post.  It’s that simple.

I’m hoping to get lots of questions, and to be able to post at least one per day.  So, start sending your questions today!

More rain

It’s another rainy day here in Fort Wayne, and I’m quite sick of it.  As someone who deals with seasonal depression, the abundance of gray clouds, and lack of sunshine and blue sky is really getting to me.  I’d feel so much better if the weather were nicer than it is.  Unfortunately, it’s supposed to rain the rest of today, and tomorrow as well.  Ugh…  The next chance of sunny weather comes Friday, which is great, as that’s one of my days off.  The rest of the weekend is supposed to be nice as well.  Come on weekend!

On a positive note, though, I think the sinus infection is on its way out.  I’m feeling quite a bit better than I have been, and my headache has eased substantially.  That’s a very good thing.

Well, the clock is telling me it’s time to get ready for work.  Thank God for umbrellas.

My Exercise of Choice: Putt Putt Golf!

Some folks may think this is nuts, and they may be right, but I’ve found Putt Putt Golf to be a very good form of exercise.

Depending on the course, the number of people playing ahead of you, etc… it can take a good 30 minutes to 1 hour to get through 18 holes of putt putt golf.  Since most experts recommend at least 30 minutes of exercise a day/3 days a week, putt putt golf’s time frame would qualify.

As you play from hole to hole, whether you realize it or not, you are actually doing some very basic exercises.  You are walking around the course, which is usually designed with graded incline with require a little more exertion on your part, and you’re also bending and stretching as you reach down to retrieve your ball from the hole.  All of these movements work the muscles in your legs, back, abdomen, arms, etc… And since you have 18 holes to play through, a bit of repetition comes into play.

Putt Putt Golf also provides varying levels of difficulty, usually in the form of Amateur, Pro, and Advanced courses.  The harder the course, the longer it takes to get through.  So, if you want a longer workout, you can give one of the more advanced courses a shot.

Before you know it, by the end of one course, you’ve gotten in an easy, low impact workout, all while having fun with your family and friends.  Interesting thought, huh?
